DEMONSTRATION and INSTRUCTION

After the warm-up stage comes the part of the lesson where techniques are studied. Every lesson is different and takes the form of Sensei performing a technique on one of the students (Aikidoka) at different angles and speeds to allow the students to study the technique. There isn't much by way of verbal instruction as this helps develop the students observation skills. Some important points are pointed out to the students and Sensei may also want to convey the fundamental purpose or the historical origins of a technique. When Sensei finishes demonstrating the technique with his partner (Uke), they bow to one another and the class also bow before doing the technique themselves.
